Meet the Children

Margret Mutentami

“Kindly accept my personal appreciation for your support of the education of my children. You assisted me with the University education of Margret even when there was no arrangement for that. My daughter graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and African Languages with a major in History.”

Pastor Makowani

May the continue blessing you Doctor so that you can continue being a blessing to me and to LCCA at large. Mulungu akhale nanu!”

Musumenu Kangongo

Hi, my name is Musumenu Kangongo. I’m thirteen, and will turn fourteen on November 14, 2018. My father, Jonathan Kangongo, is a Pastor in the Lutheran Church of Central Africa. We are a family of four. My sibling, Danny Kangongo, is a boy. The other two are mum and dad.

I did my primary education at the Lutheran School in Kaunda Square, Lusaka, Zambia. This school is funded by the Vulnerable Children’s Foundation (VCF). They place vulnerable and poverty-stricken kids in the two Lutheran Church of Central Africa schools in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa. I’m grateful to them. I wish that there could be more financial resources to support the VCF. Last year, in 2017, I qualified for grade eight, but my family was unable to take me to school. It was not my family’s problem. My understanding is that they were born and bred in poverty by their parents, my grandfather, and grandmother.

My father, as a pastor, receives $100 every month to support our family. This too is extreme poverty. He struggles to pay utility bills. It was a huge challenge to attend school. My father applied for the EH Wendland Scholarship Fund to place me in school. Thankfully, my financial assistance was granted. I wish that there could be more financial resources to support many more pastors’ children who are like me. I’m grateful to Wendland Fund. By God’s grace, Divine Savior Academy has offered me a scholarship to study in the United States of America at the high school level. I’m grateful to them. When I grow up, I would like to become a lawyer or Christian educator to serve my church, my country, Zambia and to fight poverty in my family.

I ask God to bless my studies in the United States of America. Thank you!

Tactiful

I am Tactiful Titus Simweeleba, aged nineteen (19).  I completed my grade twelve (12) last year, 2015 at Petauke Day Secondary School.  During my school year, I was very much interested in Biology and English as my favorites. Thanks be to God that I managed to get a full grade twelve certificate with 15 points.  My results are as follows: English-2, Mathematics-5, Biology-3, Science-4, Civic Education-1, Religious Education-1 and Geography- 3.  This now gives me a chance to have my dream come true of becoming a Clinical Officer, studying at Chainama School of Health Sciences or to study Biomedical at Ndola School of Health.  Many more thanks go to the EH Wendland Scholarship Fund which helped my parents for five (5) years during my school years. However, despite this help, my parents faced some challenges in the sense that the scholarship was just only funded once in a year for one term. The remaining two terms my parents used to struggle paying for my fees. Now that I want to further my education to a higher level, I am looking forward to receive a full scholarship which will help me finish my studies without any disturbances. I am currently helping with the Sunday school program and music during the worship service. Once more God’s blessings to this wonderful support.

I am writing this letter to share with you how the E. H. Wendland Fund has helped me. Starting from the time when I passed my Grade 7 examinations to enter Grade 8, my parents could not afford to pay my school fees. However, I was able to go into Grade 8 because this fund made it possible for my parents to pay my fees and also to buy the things I needed for school, such as books, shoes, and even school uniforms. This same fund assisted me through Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, for which I am grateful. To thank God that I was able to complete my secondary schooling, I have dedicated my time to Sunday School teaching and also by playing the keyboard in church when we sing hymns. I pray that God will continue to bless the people who contribute to this fund so that many more children of our pastors can be helped in the same way. I have enclosed two photos of me–one with my Sunday School class and the other showing me on the keyboard.
